Gives the “Sinae Cera” Guarantee
On All Its Products and Services
Sinae Cera was the first written guarantee. It was offered during the height of the Roman Empire by artisans commissioned to sculpt statues for the affluent Romans. Such was the demand for these sculptures that many not-so-skilled people started chiseling stone. Their work, however, had many imperfections, which they covered up with bee’s wax. As can be imagined, it didn’t take long after the sculptures were placed in the gardens for the Mediterranean sun to do its work on the bee’s wax. The result was hostile customers angry with all sculptors. Unfortunately, the true artisans found themselves in a dilemma that was not of their making. To solve this problem, they chiseled “Sinae Cera” on the base of their sculptures, which simply means, “no wax.”
By the way, it is also the root for our English word, sincere.
